Dr Kurkijärvi is a founding partner of Bio Fund Management Oy Ltd and has been the chairman of the board since the founding of the company. In addition to his service on the board, funding work, and investor relations, he is in charge of finding investment targets, especially, in the pharmaceuticals industry. He serves or has served as a chairman of the board at BioTie Therapies Corp., MAP Medical Oy, Bio Orbit Oy, Admin Technologies Oy, FibroGen Europe Oy, Pribori Oy, Hormos Medical Oy, Hytest Oy and Rados Technology Oy.
He also is and has been on boards of directors of more than 20 international life science companies among others: Ark Therapeutics Ltd (UK), FibroGen, Inc. (USA), Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (USA), A+ Science AB (Sweden), Aboa Tech Oy and Juvantia Pharma Ltd. Prior to founding of BioFund, Dr Kurkijärvi was director of venture capital group, Finnish National Fund of Research and Development Sitra. He has also served as executive vice president at Wallac Oy and as CEO at Pharmacia Diagnostics Production Oy. He also worked for several years as a researcher and teacher at the University of Turku, publishing several scientific papers during that time.

Alex Azhayev, (Founder) Ph.D.
Alex is Professor of Bioorganic Chemistry at the University of Kuopio, Finland. Prof. Azhayev is author of more then 150 scientific publications and is a recognized opinion lader in the area of nucleic chemistry. Prof Azhayev is also inventor of MetGen IP.
Esko Matti Pulkkinen
Mr Pulkkinen has more than 25 years` international experience in food, biotechnical and pulp and paper industry. He has been responsible for business units, export, sales and marketing, production, procurement, R&D and he has worked as MD and Member of Boarder of Directors of subsidiary companies. Recently he has been Director and VP of Margarine and Soy –Oat Business Units producing and selling functional foods and branded products for retail and B to B markets. Mr Pulkkinen is a member of IMD Business School Alumni Club and his educational background is PhD in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Economy.
Tarja Teppo
Tarja (MSc. In Engineering, PhD in Tech) has been involved with renewable energy and other cleantech research and advisory projects for Nordic institutional and industrial investors as a co-founder of Cleantech Invest (CTI). She has also been involved in the development of the CTI cleantech seed fund from the beginning. Tarja has carried out clean energy and other cleantech private equity (PE) fund evaluations and detailed due diligence (DD) projects on direct cleantech investments on behalf of CTI's clients. The PE funds include both clean energy project equity funds and cleantech venture capital funds. She has also carried out fundraising for a cleantech fund of funds.
Through CTI Tarja has been involved in organizing the Nordic cleantech venture day since 2005. She has also represented two cleantech alternative investment vehicles in the Nordic area, helped to build an clean energy equity fund for a Nordic bank, developed a renewable energy fund investment strategy for an electric utility, participated in offshore wind pre-development projects and carried out several other consulting assignments in the cleantech financing area.
Tarja has been following the development of the cleantech investment market since its early stages, through her PhD research at the Helsinki University of Technology. She defended her thesis on "Venture Capital Investment in Sustainable Energy Technologies" in 2006.
Prior to 2002, she worked for Nokia Ventures Organization in the United States and headed R&D groups at Nokia Corporation.
